We want to beautify one of the forgotten sides of Cornelis Troostplein around Café De Plakhoek to honor De Pijp local life.

The goal of the project is to beautify one of the forgotten sides of Cornelis Troostplein around Café De Plakhoek to honor De Pijp local life.

Opportunities

Café De Plakhoek is a nice local cafe in the neighbourhood. But it is surrounded of street containers, cars, tree pit boxes that are falling apart and poor-quality bike racks in front of the buurtstalling entrance. There are also no benches available while it is nice and sunny on this side of the square!

Ideas

During a buurt meeting with five residents (Chris, Gabriela, Trudy, Ed, Saskia), we have brainstormed about how to make this corner of the square more attractive and usable for the Café and all residents.

We want to improve and plant tree pits, turn at least two parking spaces into biodiverse planting beds with sustainable urban features, include a bench near the loop, plant the centres of the loop with beautiful wildflowers, replace the old bike racks by new ones, improve the direct environment of the underground street container, and paint or relocate the clothes recycling container, introduce atmospheric low lighting and string lights.

Process

We want to work with the Gemeente, residents, the Cafe and organisations such as Meergroen to make this project happen. We envision to start small with a tactical urbanism approach including temporary, light and affordable elements.
