Café De Plakhoek Pocket Park

Door: Saskia Huizinga
31 mei 2024

The idea is to improve existing sitting, cycle parking and planting facilities to celebrate the Plakhoek Café that is a meeting point for a lot of local residents and make the space welcoming even when the Café is closed as well as better in terms of water management and biodiversity.

The goal of the project is to beautify one of the forgotten sides of Cornelis Troostplein around Café De Plakhoek to honor De Pijp local life.

Opportunities

Café De Plakhoek is a nice local cafe in the neighbourhood. But it is surrounded of street containers, cars, tree pit boxes that are falling apart and poor-quality bike racks in front of the buurtstalling entrance. There are also no benches available while it is nice and sunny on this side of the square!

The design includes:

- Replacing the informal and deteriorated bench with two Amsterdam canape benches,
- Creating a raingarden (wadi) around the existing trees and replacing two parking bays.

We will work with the Gemeente, Netwerk De Pijp, Natuur&Milieuteam Zuid and local businesses to make the plan happen.

We will also apply separately for bike stands via the Gemeente website.
